Welcome to the gardens at Bennys Place.

Lantana

A photo of lantana. This is one of the many beautiful flowers I grow in the desert.

I am an old fashioned gardener. To me nothing is finer than the old, romantic, cottage gardens. The colours and forms create a symphony to delight all the senses. I love to tell a good story and my garden provides my inspiration. I am blessed to have such a beautiful son and I enjoy teaching him to love and appreciate the goodness, peace and fulfillment tending a garden can bring. Finally, I shall be forever grateful to Alan Titchmarsh for inspiring me to get out there and make something out of a little bit of earth.

I encourage you to have a look around. There is a lot to see here. I will post new articles regularly and feature new plants as I discover them. If you have any questions or comments or need gardening advice, please drop me a line. I would love to hear from you.

What is blooming now in the gardens at Bennys Place?

It is February already! That is my first thought. January has come and gone so quickly. As I mention in the journal, the month of January had very strange, mild weather. I have had blooms of some sort all winter long which isn't a bad thing really I suppose. It does however concern me that it has not been bold enough to kill off the mosquitoes but worse I fear it may be a warmer than normal summer.

I am looking to spending a lot of qualithy time in the garden this month. The days will be getting longer and of course warmer. Then again, nature with its uniqe sense of humour may decide it will be a colder than average month. We shall see. If, however the days are as warm as February's past, I shall enjoy some quiet time in the lounger taking in the beauty of all that will sure to be flowering.

I expect the flower bed to be in full bloom. I envision a paradise of poppies swaying in the breeze and a mass of sweet pea flowers with their heavenly scent.

Also mentioned in the journal is my plans to convert the area where the carrots were and get some potatoes started.

All in all, this should be an exciting month in the garden. Please check back for updates.
