Top reasons to grow your own plants from seed:
- You can grow plants not readily available at your local nursery. When growing from seeds, the possibilities are almost endless.
- There is no reward which quite matches the experience of watching a seedling develop into a strong, mature, flowering plant.
- It is MUCH cheaper!
With the right tools, a lot of patience and a little know-how, anyone can grow many of their favorite plants from seed. Knowing where to begin can be the hardest part. If you Google "seed companies" you will be provided with thousands of links to companies offering their seeds and seed growing products. I can share with you what I recommend based on my own personal experience.
Onalee Seeds -- Onalee's Seeds is a true treasure. I will be writing a full review of her company soon. Onalee has a variety of fun, interesting and unique seeds available. Here is an example of what is available: Butterfly Pea Vine, Spanish Flag, seeds for sunny and shade gardens, seed collections including a collection geared towards those that wish to have a butterfly garden and much more. Onalee also ships live plants during the warmer months.
Georgia Vines -- Yet another treasure when it comes to seed suppliers. A full review of Lori's company is also forthcoming. If you are into growing passiflora or milkweeds, Georgia Vines is the best place to buy these types of seeds. Lori also has seeds geared towards butterfly gardens and fragrant gardens.
Diane's Flower Seeds -- If you want fragrant, heirloom and vintage seeds, Diane is a wonderful resource. She has a wide selection of cosmos and stock. Further, if you like daylilies, Diane has a large selection.
I do a LOT of research and soon this area of the site will be populated with many links to the most useful sites I have found. I have categorized the links according to the value they serve.
